Once upon a time there was a girl named Maria, she lived in Predeal, a small town from the center of Romania.
This town is surrounded by beautiful mountains, like Piatra Mare (1843m) in North, Bucegi (2508m Peak Omu) in South-West and Postãvarul (1799m) in North-West.
Predeal it is known as mountain resort, during the summer people come here to relax and enjoy the silence of nature, while during the winter time they come here not only to escape from the big cities, but also to ski or snowboard and spent quality time with friends or families, also many kids come here both in summer and winter in camps.
During the summer as, worth seeing landmarks in the area are:
The Seven Stairs Canyon
As for the winter the main attraction is represented by the sky slopes.
Going back to the girl from our story, she was different from the other habitants from this city as most of them were involved in tourism activities or they were sky or snowboarding instructors, but she was more interested in the human nature, in knowing herself and discovering more about her place in the world. So, she went to Brasov, a bigger city close to her home town, to study psychology and from there her life extended and larger perspectives started to develop.
Since 2010 she started doing volunteering in the reformed church “Home of Hope” from Brasov county, for „The Program for Prevention and Combating Domestic Violence“ – an accredited program that provides social services. „The Program for Prevention and Combating Domestic Violence“ aims to promote family relationships and families without violence, prevention, information on the phenomenon and the provision of professional services to those affected by domestic violence.
As actvities in which Maria was activily involved here were mostly connected with the part of social campains, like, „Choose care instead of violence” in May 2010, „Together for love“ from 13 to 16 December 2011. Her responsibilities during this campaigns began with the idea itself, name of the campaign, planning the activities and implementation – under the coordination of one of the supervisors. She was also involved in coordinating and supervising volunteers in the campaign “Respect – Nonviolence the choice of the stronger!” in 15 June 2012. In present she is responsible mostly for managing the monthly network by sending invitations for the event to the local members from NGO’s and people interested in the subject approached by the program.
The activities she was involved in here and the altogether experience helped her be more confident in herself and more open to new experiences.
Beside her interest for volunteering she also had a hunger for knowing so she read different books about self-development, she went to different workshops and from there she discovered spirituality and new approaches in knowing and healing yourself, like meditation, Family Constellation therapy, Reiki, Angel therapy, mandalas and others.
The mandalas brought a new world with them as she enjoyed in creating them, she started doing also jewelry with mandalas and semiprecious stones. She also had some experiences in teaching others in creating their own mandala, so she started doing different creative workshops mostly with kids in different contexts and this brought her joy.
To see more from her creations, check here, or search on Facebook for “Hand Created, Heart Inspired” page.
As I said earlier she enjoys learning and discovering more about herself and the world through experience, that’s why she loves non-formal education, and be part of different trainings mostly as participant, but also as trainer. The last training she was part of as participant it was the “ACHIEVE – innovative methods for training and development of youth workers”, as from the part of facilitator of activities and trainings, most of this activities she managed were through the “G.E.S.T.” – a Educational Society for Youth Development. , were she did together with the team two trainings for a group of kids from Căiuti, a village from Romania, one about Volunteering and the other one about Self-Confidence, here you can see photos from those events.
Also, she enjoys spending time in nature, hiking – that she discovered with her friends, in the last years and she enjoys more and more, spending time with close friends, traveling, exploring the world by learning more about other cultures and meeting new people.
And now Maria she’s up to start a new journey, that have brought her in Prostějov. She feels enthusiastic and curious about what changes will bring this year in herself and her life and also what impact she will have on others and she hopes for the best.
