As I mentioned I am from Armenia, I would like to give an Introduction to my country.
1. Where is Armenia?
The Land of Noah, Armenia, officially called Republic of Armenia is a country in the South Caucasus region of Eurasia. Located in Western Asia on the Armenian Highlands, it is bordered by Turkey, Georgia, the de facto independent Republic of Artsakh, Azerbaijan and Iran. In Armenian language the country called Hayastan.
The Republic of Armenia has a territorial area of around 30000 square km. It is mostly mountainous, with fast flowing rivers, and few forests. One of the rivers which found its place in our classical history based literature is the river called Araqs.
Average elevation of the country area is 10th highest in the world. Mount Ararat, which was historically part of Armenia, is the highest mountain in the region. Now located in Turkey, but clearly visible from Armenia, it is regarded by the Armenians as a symbol of our land. Because of this, the mountain is present on the Armenian national emblem today.
2. Yerevan. 2800-year-old city
Yes, Yerevan is the capital of Armenia. The history of Yerevan dates back to the 8th century BC, with the founding of the fortress of Erebuni in 782 BC by king Argishti I. Erebuni was “designed as a great administrative and religious center, a fully royal capital. By the late ancient Armenian Kingdom, new capital cities were established and Yerevan declined in importance. The first project of the modern Yerevan was created during second decade of 20th century. The city is also famous as ”Pink city” due to the many Tufa-made buildings. Most of the non-residential buildings are in neoclassic style. (for example, The Opera House, The Republic Square).
Armenia was the first nation to adopt Christianity as a state religion, an event traditionally dated to AD 301. Etchmiadzin Cathedral is the mother church of the Armenian Apostolic Church, Before Christianity Armenia was a pagan country. This temple is located in Garni and is the only pagan temple that is not destroyed by the King who accepted Christianity. The unique Armenian alphabet was invented by Mesrop Mashtots in 405 AD. This is the golden age of Armenian history. As you see It’s not relevant to Latin, Greek or Cyrilic letter prototype. And the language is not related with any other language.
